Payment Plans on Invoices: Deposits and Splits

Take a wedding fee in parts: percentage splits with their own due dates, one pay link, and an invoice that only closes when the last part clears.

Most wedding photographers take money in three parts: a booking fee, a mid payment and a final balance before delivery. Studio CRMs often sell payment schedules as a headline feature. Here it is a setting on any invoice.

How do split payments work?

Build the invoice as normal, then choose a schedule: 50/50, thirds, or your own percentages with a label and a due date on each part. The maths is penny-exact, so a £1,000.01 invoice split three ways never gains or loses a penny in rounding. There is one pay link for the whole invoice and it always shows the client which part is due now.

Each part settles by card through Stripe into your own account. The invoice flips to paid only when the final part clears, which is also the moment the paid-invoice automations fire, so a thank-you email never goes out on a part payment.

Can clients add a tip?

Yes. The pay page can offer an optional gratuity on top of any part. Tips are recorded separately on the invoice so your accounts stay clean.

Frequently asked questions

Do payment reminders work with schedules?

Yes. The due-date reminder looks at each part's own date, and overdue nudges chase only the part that is actually late.

Can I edit a schedule after sending?

You can adjust unpaid parts until the client pays them. Paid parts are locked, because they are a record of money received.
